Home Flooring: Cost-Effective, Long Lasting Flooring

Whenever you install a new floor, you want to be sure that once it’s done you won’t have to worry about replacing it in a couple of years. After all, installing a new floor is a bit of a hassle. Thanks to years of experience, the professionals at Ozburn-Hessey know which floors are not only going to go the distance, but which ones will be easy on your budget as well.

Most Cost-Effective Floors

Bamboo Flooring: A Surprisingly Solid Choice

It might not be the first flooring option that comes to mind when you think about long lasting floors, but as anyone who’s tried to hack down the resilient tree can tell you, those suckers are hard to cut through. That’s just the natural version of it, too. Once the bamboo has been processed and woven together, bamboo flooring is one of the most durable flooring materials available, with a Janka scale rating between 2000 and 3200. The Janka scale measures how resistant a material is to everyday wear and tear, and usually caps off at about 3600. Additionally, bamboo flooring is one of the cheapest and most eco-friendly options available on the market due to how fast bamboo grows and decomposes.

Hardwood Flooring: The Old Stand-by

Hardwood flooring is the most popular flooring material and one of the longest lasting. Take a look at some of the homes in Nashville that have been around a while and there is a good chance that hardwood flooring is the original flooring. Of course, durability will depend on the specific type of wood you use. Some softer options (like pine) are pretty susceptible to scratches, dents, and more. But if you install a hardwood floor with a higher Janka rating (like teak), then you don’t have to worry about it.

There is one major thing that hardwood flooring has over pretty much every other flooring material: the ability to be sanded down and resurfaced. Most people won’t have an issue with the occasional scratch or dent in their hardwood floor since it gives it character, but you always have the option of resurfacing in order to extend the life of the floor. In scenarios where the flooring is looked after on a regular basis, hardwood flooring can last for almost a century.

Vinyl Flooring: The Man-Made Option

If you do not care about the look of your flooring and only about how long it will last, vinyl flooring is the option for you. Throw a sheet of that across the subfloor in any room and you pretty much only have to worry about sweeping it, because nothing is getting through that surface. This isn’t really feasible for many though, which is why vinyl plank flooring is so popular. It can be styled to look like most other kinds of flooring, but it still retains its durability just slightly less than a sheet, since there are more seams for irritants to get through.

There are plenty of options for a floor that won’t break your bank and won’t break under the pressures of everyday wear and tear. To find out more about them, and if you need help installing the flooring, contact the professionals at Ozburn-Hessey today!
